Guest Post: Fighting Hunger Never Tasted so Good

Now that the holidays are over, and the cakes, pies and cocktails have been shelved, many people are looking for ways to eat healthy and get in shape again. Studies show, that eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables and protein can help you stay healthy.

What if eating could help you make a difference too?

C.H. Robinson Worldwide, Inc., has teamed up with AARP and AARP Foundation to support the Drive to End Hunger initiative by offering  specially designed packaging on Tropicana® Clementines at participating retailers nationwide.

Available on three-pound bags and five-pound race CARtons, the packaging includes a photo of four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon and the No. 24 Drive to End Hunger Chevrolet.  The specially designed packaging is made available as part of C.H. Robinson’s role as a proud supporter of the Drive to End Hunger initiative.  C.H. Robinson will also be making donations to AARP Foundation for the initiative throughout 2013, and has committed to donating at least $25,000.

Donations can also be made by individuals directly to AARP Foundation through a QR code, which is available on both packaging options in stores. Shoppers that make a donation of $24 or more will receive a Drive to End Hunger hat.

“Too many older Americans, in communities across the country, struggle to put food on the table,” said Jo Ann Jenkins, AARP Foundation president.  “We’re grateful for the opportunity to work with C.H. Robinson and some of the nation’s leading food retailers to raise awareness of the problem of hunger among older Americans and AARP Foundation’s efforts to provide solutions through Drive to End Hunger.

Nearly nine million Americans age 50 years and older are at risk for hunger every day which is a 79 percent increase in the last 10 years. Since AARP and AARP Foundation launched Drive to End Hunger, the initiative has donated almost 16 million meals.

Here’s to making a difference!

Fruit is a very healthy thing and what better way to help your health and our Older Americans at the same time. I personality donate to AARP every year. I am among the younger american generation and so thankful to be able to help our older generation. This is such a great cause and in today society they need all of our help. It's just so awesome the way, corporations & individuals come together to help out the people in need. Jeff Gordon is just one heck of a human being and I'm glad that he's the driver that I've always been following as his career started at a young age. I knew he was different for a reason. I've donated in many different ways to His charity and the Drive To End Hungers and I even decaled my personal car to look exactly like his racecar to bring attention to this great "CAUSE". Please text "Hunger" to 50555 ,thank you all.
