Matt McInerney, Senior Executive Vice President, Western Growers Association, began his 38-year career with the association after receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from the University of Southern California. Matt has participated on several California Department of Food and Agriculture committees, and has served on the NAFTA Advisory Committee for Commercial Dispute Resolution Regarding Agricultural Goods. He is currently Chairman of the Dispute Resolution Corporation (DRC), co-chair for the U.S./Canada Task Force dealing with trade issues between both countries, serving on the Agricultural Technical Advisory Committee for Trade (ATAC) in Fruits and Vegetables, and Chair of the Alliance for Food and Farming.

Transportation is (and always has been) a fundamental issue for fresh produce. In fact, a handful of growers in the Imperial Valley located in southern California founded Western Growers because of a transportation issue. The particular issues they faced in 1926 were tied to the railroad—rates, service levels, and equipment availability to be specific. And 10 years ago, we still faced many of those same problems, across all modes. So we created the Western Growers Transportation Program (WGTP).
