The day started off like any other day: Employees filled up their coffee mugs, emails were sent, and calls were made. Business proceeded as normal. Then, at 1:00 p.m., the kids started to arrive—bubbly and excited to be with their parents and loved ones (and away from school). Everyone gets excited on Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day—parents and kids alike.
At C.H. Robinson, we’re proud to join more than 3.5 million U.S. workplaces that participate in Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day, a nationally recognized event. Several of our offices participate, including TMC, a division of C.H. Robinson, Philadelphia, and Toledo. This is the second year our corporate headquarters coordinated a formal event that included multiple programs about marketing, UX design experience, logistics, and even tours of a truck and C.H. Robinson container.
Yes, there was a bit of chaos. But, there were significantly more smiles, higher excitement, and a new energy around the office, too.
Kids joined their parents in interacting with coworkers, playing games, and learning about careers.
These annual events greatly benefit the kids—the future of our workforce. They get to see their parents or loved ones in a professional environment. Kids retain a remarkable amount of information and experiences, and this one is no exception. It’s an opportunity to give them confidence, creativity, and leadership skills.
And our people benefit, too. To put it simply, children are fun (most of the time). When people are having fun, the atmosphere lifts and it’s like the sun is shining indoors. Everyone—whether they brought their children or not—got to show off what they do every day and interact with a new audience. From the photos posted in this blog post, or on the Foundation’s Facebook page, it’s easy to see that our employees and their kids had quite a bit of fun throughout the day.
And that’s why bringing your kids to work, works.
